Yep...and perhaps those Mi-24s will earn the distinction that the Tu-95s and B-52s have earned. Give them another 15 years and they will...where right now the grandchildren of the men who first flew the B-52s and Tu-95s are now old enough to flying those aircraft!It will keep flying when we are going to retire.
That's simply a tribute to the design and the maintenance of such systems that they:
1) Can continue to operate after so many decades.
2) That they can still be made to be relevant.
And with all of these systems we are talking about (TU-95s, B-52s, Mi-24s, etc.)...they fill both of those.
The B-52 was introduced into service in 1955, 60 years ago this year. The Tu-95 was introduced in 1956, 60 years ago next year. The Mi-24 was introduced in 1972, 43 years ago.
Pardon me for showing my age (I am turning 60 years old) but I still believe the B-52 and the TU-95 are beautiful.
