Those are photos trials of the project first in class 21900 M icebreaker Vladivostok. she was built at the Vyborg Shipyard.

The Project 21900 M icebreaker is a modification of the project 21900 icebreakers which were built a few years ago at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg.

These ships are able to operate in ice up to 1.5 meters thick. Their principle mission is to lead other vessels through the ice. to tow other vessels, to fight fires on vessels or on structures at sea, and to assist ships in distress.

I think the trials began September 12th or 13th. I believe they are planning to officially accept her for service on September 23rd.

No...none of the Typhoons were made into SSGNs. They only built six of them, and this is the last one. This one was used to test the new Buleva missiles for the Borei.

The Russians do have a dedicated SSGN, the Oscar...and they are big subs too, although not as massive as these Typhoons.

They also had other SSGNs and some of the early ones may well have been conversion...but not the Typhoons.

treaty limitations (which affected SLBMs but not cruise missiles) and a typical Soviet unwillingness to completely discard any military hardware that might still have some use. The conversion increased the overall length by 12 m (39.4 feet) to 141.5 m (464.2 feet), with a displacement of up to 11,500 tons submerged. While classed as SSNs (attack subs), these boats might also be considered
