Russian Helicopters shows the modernization of the emblematic Mi-14PS
(defensa.com) Russian Helicopters has presented its plans for renewed production of unique amphibious multirole Mi-14 helicopter, which can ditch, take off and move in the water. Powered by Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant, was manufactured by Kazan Helicopters (integrated loved Russian Helicopters) between 1973 and 1986. Due to the interest of potential users, the company is prepared to modernize it with the latest technologies and restart construction, in order to expand significantly the scope of the search and rescue operations for emergency services, as well as navies. It was in service with the Russian Navy and was operated commercially in Bulgaria, Cuba, German Democratic Republic, Ethiopia, Libya, Syria, Vietnam, Yemen and Yugoslavia.
It is currently in service with the Polish Naval Aviation. The basic version was antisubmarine Mi-14PL and in 1979 the minesweeper towed Mi-14BT and search and rescue multirole Mi-14PS entered service. The Mi-14 was based on the Mi-8T, the main distinction being the bottom, boat-shaped, hermetically sealed, rather than the traditional undercarriage, allowing being in the water, counting on the sides with floats for stability, which also support the retractable undercarriage. The various systems are adapted for naval use and numerous technical solutions, which then found application in the Mi-8/17 is developed.
