Russian Military News, Reports, Data, etc.

With Russia significantly increasing the heft of their armored vehicles across the board this once again leaves the PLA as the major arms manufacturing country military with the lightest armored vehicles overall. The day when the PLA can retire all its obsolete and under-protected armor can't come soon enough, it's incredibly sad to see them still using and upgrading Type 59 tanks, Type 63 APCs, and variants of the BMP-1 IFV.

Type 59 is obsolete, but China needs amphibious vehicles , and with current technology you cannot create something for that role with much better armor then Type 63 . Basically, you could upgrade weapons, fire control systems , communications etc ... but weight needs to remain low .

Well, the current Chinese AFVs in production are pretty heavy, the Type 99A (or whatever its designation) is at least 60 tons (the Armata is about 57 tons, I believe).
