Armata turret looks actually quite small when you compare it to that improved 125mm gun. How heavily such turret can be armored is questionable... of course it increases crews changes to survive when hit but increased change of mission kill becomes bigger problem.
I'd be surprised if that turret has thick frontal and side armor. Of course it could be driving without any sort ERA or other add on armor but we'll see that soon enough.
Actually, according to designers, ARMATA will have better protection of turret then any existing tank , including Abrams, Leopard or Merkava . This is partially because of its small size (smaller volume and somewhat increased weight means much thicker and more slopped walls of the turret) .
Real question would be protection of hull, especially sides and rear , because to keep weight limited those areas cannot be armoured as rest of the tank .
