At the Army-2023 International Military-Technical Forum, the United Engine Corporation showed a model of the promising SM-100 engine for the modernized Yak-130M combat training aircraft. The project is a development of the AI-222-25 base engine and is being developed by the Salyut production complex.

“The new power plant will have improved performance with similar dimensions and weight, in particular, the maximum thrust will increase by 20%, and the engine lifetime will double,” the UEC said.

The improvement in performance was achieved by increasing the compression ratio, installing a modern three-stage low-pressure compressor, introducing upgraded combustion chamber components and an increased reliability turbine. The low-pressure compressor and turbine are currently undergoing bench tests, and the combustion chamber is undergoing flight tests.
In addition, a modernized high-pressure compressor, which is smaller and lighter, and cheaper to manufacture, will also be tested in the near future. Also, for the upgraded engine, a reinforced gearbox was developed, which allows installing a drive-generator, the rated power of which is twice as high as that of the basic version of the AI-222-25 engine.

“The development of the SM-100 is carried out as part of the work to modernize the base engine for the Yak-130 combat training aircraft. The scientific and technical groundwork obtained during the work is used to modernize the AI-222-25 engines. Along with this, the engine has great potential for use in the field of military aviation, and can also be considered as the basis for a family of power plants for light regional and administrative aircraft. We are ready to cooperate with aviation design bureaus at all stages of aircraft development,” said Alexei Gromov, head of the Salyut production complex at UEC JSC.

All work is carried out in a planned manner and is at the stage of experimental confirmation of the characteristics of the upgraded aircraft engine components.

The Yermak-McFaul International Expert Group has found that China is the main supplier of critical components for Russian drones. The group proposes to tighten control over foreign components used by Russia in its UAVs.

Details: The Russian army most frequently uses three models of drones: Shahed-136/131, Lantset and Orlan-10. Russia still relies heavily on foreign-made components, particularly microelectronics, to manufacture its drones.
174 foreign components removed from three models of UAVs used by Russian troops on the battlefield in Ukraine were examined by a group on sanctions against Russia, headed by the Andrii Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, and Michael McFaul, Director of the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI).

According to the group's research, China is the main supplier of critical components for Russian drones, accounting for 67% of shipments, with 17% of them going through Hong Kong. Türkiye and the United Arab Emirates account for 5% and 2% of components, respectively. Components, including CPUs, chips, transistors, and other critical ones, made in Japan, the Republic of Korea, Switzerland, and other countries, were also found in the drones.
The International Expert Group's report says many parts are available through publicly accessible platforms, making regulatory oversight difficult.
In view of this, the group's experts called on manufacturers to do more to prevent Russia from accessing their products bypassing economic sanctions.

Doesn't seem like Russia facing a shortage of components or parts for their Drone production They planned to ramp up the production of various drones.Lancet production is now at 200,000 per year and going to 1 million. So where is Western media article that say Russia is scavenging chips from washing machine and refrigerator heheh:)

Some elements indicating that the Shahed attack UAVs are being assembled in Russia have been discovered following recent Russian attacks on Ukraine, and Russia is currently planning to ramp up production of drones on its territory.

Quote from Skibitskyi: "Following recent Shahed attacks, we have discovered certain elements indicating that the final stage of assembly of these UAVs is taking place in Russia. An increase in the number of Russian parts in the drones is a testament to this. Furthermore, we are aware of the aggressor's plans to expand the production of Shaheds in Russia."
Details: He further pointed out that during one of Russia's defence industry exhibitions, the country's military-industrial complex said Moscow wanted to develop around 60 UAVs of various modifications by 2030.
Skibitskyi said DIU's preliminary intelligence data indicates that the Russians plan to produce 1,300 Geran-2 drone units, i.e. Shaheds, in the second half of this year. They plan to use components of both foreign and domestic production
.
Meanwhile, the DIU representative believes that Russia is not currently capable of producing such a large number of UAVs.
The DIU is currently collecting intelligence on the actual capacity of the Russian production facilities where they assemble these drones and what companies in Russia are involved in supplying parts.
Skibitskyi also said Russia has been able to boost missile production since the beginning of the spring. For example, the Russians expected to produce about a total of 118 pieces of Kinzhals, Iskander-M, Iskander-K, Kalibr, Kh-101 and modified Kh-22 (Kh-32) missiles in August.

All the events inherent to this commercial aircraft and the global situation in which sanctions and embargoes are the sword of Damocles that always hangs over the supplies of "Western" partners of components, leads me to think that without publicizing the collaboration to build an XX-929 with only Sino-Russian components it will continue, this for having it available for production in the eventual and hopefully never repeating for China of what happened to Russia (and not only) with the imposition of sanctions on the commercial aeronautical sector
The news below should make you think, just to anticipate possible similar situations for Chinese-made aircraft. After 4 years of work, the SJ-100 prototype aircraft, a version of the SSJ-100 without sanctioned foreign components, performed its maiden flight today, August 29. About 40 domestically produced systems and components were installed on the Russian-made Superjet aircraft, replacing foreign counterparts. To accelerate the test programme, the first SJ-100 prototype is equipped with Franco-Russian SaM146 engines, while the second prototype will begin the flight test program with Russian PD-8 engines.
