As for the militia claims, I served in the Canadian army for 5 years, many of my colleagues do not get full loaded. We just grab whatever useful, rifle, shotguns, knife, tin cans, coms, that's all we grab, just like those Russian troops in the pictures. We hate helmets and vests. Those Russian soldiers shown on those pictures are veterns, you can tell from the look on their face. So they are not militia.
I call BS; CF personnel are not allowed to use personal weapons while on active duty. They are only allowed to use issued weapons. Any deviation from this rule results in immediate disciplinary hearings, up to and including court martial and a dishonourable discharge (which would show up on a criminal records check).
screw you!! Have you ever been on the field? By the way, I've never mentioned anything regarding personal weapons. What I meant was that we do not take anything other than neccessary. Yes, we have to put on our helmets and vests all the time, according to the book. But nobody likes those crumblesome things. THe helments smells like shit and the vests even worst. So we usually take those stupid things off after we left the camp or just leave them behind. Just like those Russian Soldiers. By the way, please do not mix up Russian soldiers with militia units from the disputed areas. Notice that those militia have a white band on their arms.
By the way, Please give some respect to veterans. The reason why we are call veterans because we survive.
HAHA, you are correct, I am not a CF. In fact I have never fired a shot. Anyway, I am a teacher in Hong Kong. What I am trying to do here is to show that everyone and BS about themselves and about the things happened in the war. As audience, we need to decide what is right and what is wrong, but we do not have to discredit people in front of them. What is right and what is wrong, who can actually decide that? Maybe everyone here is wrong except the person whom we think he is BS. And you guys are like my students, once got into a hot topic throw everything at each other. Remember, everytime you discredit someone, you are actually discrediting yourself. So as long as we believe in freedom of speech here, let us all BS and enjoy ourselves.
Haha... ok fine... you are right, I did not serve in Canadian Army. I am a teacher in Hong Kong. I am just trying to point out that everyone here can BS about themselves and the things about the war. But how could we know if that person is BS or not? I think we need to be able to judge which source is reliable and which is not. But maybe we do not have to say that out loud. There is old saying in Chinese "Everybody drunk but me", maybe the one we think BS is actually saying the truth. After all we have no way to confirm what actually happened on the front. I always teach my students never ever discredit anyone in public or in this case in Forum, because when you discredit others you are discrediting yourself as well. So I think as long as there is freedom of speech, lets all BS and let the audience to decide which is right and which is not.
