Brands from the UAE replaced Inditex in St. Petersburg

January 17, 2024

More than 10% of all stores of new international brands that entered the Russian market in 2023 opened in St. Petersburg
Four brands of the Fashion and More Management brand from the UAE - DUB, ECRU, MAAG, Vilet, came to replace the Spanish retail giant Inditex, familiar to customers, located in its premises and occupying a total of more than 20 thousand square meters. m. Thus, the majority of newly opened stores (about 70%) were from Fashion and More Management brands. The share of Turkish brands – Club, Mudo, OXXO, owned by Fiba Retail Group, amounted to 10% of the total volume of newly introduced ones.
“In terms of its scale and consumer potential, the Russian market still remains one of the most attractive in the world. And to confirm this, today we are seeing active expansion and quite successful replacement of departed “foreigners” with new international brands from friendly countries that are interested in scaling their business. To achieve this goal, St. Petersburg is certainly one of the key agglomerations - it is here that more than 10% of all stores of new international brands that entered the Russian market in 2023 were opened,” comments Ekaterina Nogai, head of the research and analytics department at IBC Real. Estate.

Russia used car sales which is more accurate reflection of market size. This Toyota and Honda numbers are outliers as they never sold in this scale to have this much turnover. Pre Sanction large brands were (Lada/Renault/Nissan group) and than Kia/Hyundai with Toyota at distant place but those were high price BOF SUVs. Honda had so low sales that they withdrew few years ago and re enter now.

Russian IT workers are paid almost a million a month just so they don’t leave. Salaries in the industry have risen to record levels

Salaries of IT specialists in Russia have come close to 1 million rubles. per month. The growth of salaries is facilitated by a shortage of personnel and the need to quickly develop domestic services to replace the departed foreign ones

They will just be smuggled. The alternative would be manufacturing the Elbrus series in factories in China. But I don't think that is going to happen.

Moscow...an essential tourist destination for the Arab Gulf states

domestic tourism number. North Caucasus is the best part and longest life expectancies.

There is a certain magic in numbers, if you look at the data from the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Sports: at the end of 2023, we exceeded the figures for domestic tourist flow at the pre-Covid level in 2019 - this is over 75 million people. This practically coincides with the number of people involved in sports in our country – 77 million people.
Russians are increasingly traveling around the country. Over the 11 months of 2023, there will be a 20% increase in tourist trips or 12 million people. The geography of travel is also expanding. The North Caucasus showed an increase in tourist trips 2 times higher than the Russian average

Tourism cannot exist without aviation especially dealing with mountains.
They are expecting over 3000 Civilian engines (both fixed wing and rotary) and Turbines
PD-8, PD-14, VK-650,VK-1600, TV-117 and GT Turbine etc. This exclude the military like fighter or PS90 transport.

SSJ-100 is now doing 400 hours per month on single aircraft in 2023. This almost approaching larger Airbus A320 hours. Fundamental design was future proof just like Tu-214. it will take some time to put all in operation.

This is just start. I fully expect build something even bigger than Intel and Samsung combined just like in Aviation. they may get Intel or Chinese chips for short term. When Russia started that new tech city near Moscow. They put Craig Barett of Intel to manage it. Intel got alot from USSR. I am not saying cooperation will be reestablished but things will go in that direction.

They do the same with North Korea, Iran, Belarus, Venezuela, Cuba, etc, and tens of other different countries and then claim/mock (beginning from the biggest propagandist and oligarch Musk) that it's the fault of those countries' governments/systems that they don't have higher standards of living, instead of admitting that they are directly responsible for that instead with sanctions/other forms of economic warfare.

It's just that they had enough luck to grab the highest share of the world's wealth due to colonialism in the last few hundred years (with the colonialist Musk family a part of that as well), hence they as early-comers can bully these other countries economically with sanctions and exclusions, simply because they were luckier/came first.

However, not for too long, nowadays you have Germany going -0.3, whereas Russia goes +3.5% and dethrones them as Europe's biggest economy, and relatively grows even more than the head of the empire, the US. Not to mention how China leapfrogged them and is still rising.

I think you're being unrealistic about Russia.

On semiconductors, Russia normally only accounts for $3 Bn in semiconductor sales which is less than 1% of global demand. That's just not enough to build up a big domestic industry. And forget about exports to the West as this won't be allowed.

Plus there is the Chinese semiconductor industry. China is somewhere between 50-60% of global demand/processing and there's supposed to be 18 fabs coming online in China just in 2024. At the same time, Chinese semiconductors are a secure source, so Russia should be able to buy semiconductors which are better and cheaper than anything Russian industry can produce.

Russia is in the position where it doesn't have the resources to do everything, so trying to duplicate Chinese efforts to build a non-Western semiconductor industry is doing to be wasteful, particularly since Russia is struggling to build enough weapons to simultaneously win a war.
