Russia displays military might

Where do you guys (and gals) predict Russia will be by 2020? Please list your reasons. To keep things in one thread, please discuss any nation you want to as well.

Russia, a country with 1st world birthrate and a 3rd world mortality rate. In 20 years, the Russian population will be less than 120 million. This new resurgent is temporary and inflated by energy revenues. Without a sound economic base, this will not go on.

Furthermore, it has a large territory with not enough people that borders a country with a large population with not enough territory.

Thanks for your response Finn. Here is my reply.

America has contributed a lot to the world and the world has contributed a lot to America. America was clearly the most influential leader after World War II. After the Cold War, America has been struggling to find a way to lead the world, and the world has been doubting whether or not they should follow America. America is somewhat confused about how to take care of itself, too. America will be in GOOD shape from now to 2020, but its status as the world's leader will be diminishing.

Latin America has a history of nonstop, internal strife and a history of straining to deal with international factors, but Latin America is gradually improving at an unpredictable rate. Compare Latin America in the early 1900s to today. Latin America has been stabilizing and uniting. Latin America has an incredible amount of natural resources and lots of people. In Latin America most people are poor, the organized crime is powerful, and the businesses and governments are self-serving, but I see gradual improvements in Latin America.

In regard to IDonT, thanks for your reply and here is mine:

Russia still has a large population. 100 million is still a large size (compare Japan's population size to Russia's) and Russia's population lives better today than during the Cold War. Russia's declining population size has more to do with culture and less to do with lack of resources. Russia can change its culture by 2020 to fix their population problem. If this solution is not big enough to repel international challenges in the form of economics, politics, and military maneuvers, Russia still has lots of strategic and tactical nukes combined with lots of natural resources.

Russia's economy is in good shape because Russia has one of the world's largest gas reserves, Russia has large oil reserves, Russia has lots of other natural resources, and Russia sells lots of weapons. Russia's energy reserves will become more valuable from now to 2020. Russia is not just a giant frozen land, either. Russia has lots of natural resources besides energy resources. Russia's arms industry is no longer on par with America's, but Russia still has a good arms industry. It is not the best, but it can still attract major deals around the world.

Yes, Russia has a large landmass and not enough people to watch over all of it, but Russia still has lots of strategic and tactical nukes.

Because of these reasons, Russia is not doomed. Russia can take care of its people, it has considerable influence in international economics, and it is still a major player in international politics. Russia will not become a world leader from now to 2020, but Russia will still be a world power.

Hi, I just want to say, the population in Russia has actually been decreasing like many European countries. It will be a considerable problem in the near future. On that point, Russia doesn't look too rosy; other than that however, everything still flow quite favorably for Russia.

This massive input into the Russian military has been fueled by rising costs of energy. This is temporary however expect it linger around for another 10 years or more as the US cannot stabilise the middle east region. If Russia invests smartly into its economy targeting areas where once the energy crisis is over can still provide money for Russia, they will have a guaranteed future investment into their military and their country.

Lets look at the facts of that little parade, It consisted of about 10 T-90, 10 BMP-3, 10 BMD-3,10 BTR-90 Half dozen SP-155 and a couple of missiles and fighter planes.

I am shaken in my boots, especially when little ole Georgia is about to clean russia's clock with some U.S military training and Israeli weapon systems.

When Russia has a bigger professional Army that's not smaller than the Giant FSB and Ministry of Interior troops I may respect it more. But any nation that has a shadow army of 400,000 and bigger than its regular Army for the sole purpose of attacking its people and own army it has a bit of a problem. This is a fact.

Governments should fear its people not its people fearing the government. If things ever got bad or that way here in the U.S you would have 800,000 patriots with AR-15s doing a little house cleaning.

As for the U.S you guys are watching to much BBC and CNN. The U.S is fine, the dollar is low but that's economics, remember Jimmy Carter and 14% interest rates, Iran hostage issue.... it was worse then.

You cannot expect the whole army to be put in parade.

Stuff you mention usually end up somewhere you don't expect, where you least want it, and often against you.

What shadow army? You honestly think that somehow the main Russian population is "oppressed" and kept in line by some shadow army? Catch up with the fact that its now a democracy, and shatter the illusion that if you have a democracy, its going to be pro-US. Hardly with all the examples around the world and in history. In reality, Putin, now a king-maker, is extremely popular with the Russian people who are increasingly hard core nationalistic. Unlike Bush, Putin has the overwhelming support of his people.

Governments should fear its people not its people fearing the government. If things ever got bad or that way here in the U.S you would have 800,000 patriots with AR-15s doing a little house cleaning.

That was before you bled the country's financial blood to Japan, to the Arabs, to S. Korea and Taiwan, now to China and India, and increasingly to Russia, all via an endlessly sea of budgetary and trade deficits.

America most likely WILL collapse sometime before 2020.

I'm sorry lads, but you die-hard patriots will get to witness the USSA suffer a humiliating collapse before it's all over.

Well I'm not too worried then, because if there's one thing that we can learn from the events being discussed in this thread, it's that nations that suffer humiliating collapses can come back very quickly. And the US has always been on a firmer economic and geopolitical footing than Russia or the USSR.

More on topic, has the Russian Air Force placed an order for Su-34s? If so how many? That's an excellent aircraft that will serve multiple purposes well.

crobrato, due some research into the current russian FSB and ministry of interior troops along with the FSS they outnumber the regular army and no they are not just police, they are organized in brigade and regiment sized formations with BMP's,BTR and SP arty. They counterbalance the MoD and are disliked by the MoD. The airborne troops are not even under Army control buy directly subordinate to the russian :rofl:president:rofl: or now subordinate to the prime minister

and here we go again....america is evil ,america is bad ,america will collaspe in 20 years...Ole ute will say goodbys for another few months...children and amatures not willing to learn really hurts boards like this. by by

This hasd got off thread quickly. Our defence industries are stuffed. We cannot produce more than a handful of Iskander and Topol missiles for our missiel forces, the S-400 is way behind anmd we haven't produce enough tanks in teh past ten years for our forces to re-equip one armoured division. At least we kept some our nuclear forces intact. Will stop Han aggression to our south and baltic aggression to the west. The Baltic people were nothing but SS sympathisers - I would urinate on their flag but my prostate is giving me troubles.

I agree, just ask the Romans. Or the Byzantines.

Seriously, man, go get an education, would you? Even China, arguably THE greatest superpower in the history of nations, had to crawl for 100+ years since it's last defeat.

Don't think the US can do any better.

Also, USSR did NOT owe the world TRILLIONS of USD.
