It's like AI and EVs, a million start up pops up and after a few years, process of elimination leaves a handful of large companies.Nascent field of robotics is a wash for China, currently.
Tesla going their own way with FSD chips.
I'm a little worried about how little differentiation there is. None of these are theoretically innovative in design. Looks performative. Where are my octopus actuators, my 7 DOF arms?
IMO we're somewhere between 1 & 2 for Humanoid robotics, triggered by advancements in miniaturization of powerful electric actuators motors, batteries and processors. Limitless potential but the intelligence is not really there yet. Having a really good walking robot does not mean it is suitable for any factory work.
We're past 3 for 4 legged robots since the mediocrity of Boston dynamics which failed to bring mass capitalization due to inability to reduce cost, but with companies like Unitree which have successfully brought mass market robot dogs at an affordable price. Even just site security could represent a huge market for these robots.
For Drones we're at 5, since DJI is a household name and have evolved from glorified RC toys to tools commonly used in industry for various purposes.
All three are underpinned by advancements in electronics and power densities.
