Real life thread

I know the feeling. Parental plans suck because they're never based off of reality.
Clarification: they're never based on *your* reality.

Biology. and that's a long story, on how i could ended up there x-x but it's mainly due to my parents wanting his son to get into public/state university. That major was a surefire.
External pressure is one thing, self expectation is another, actual opportunities and risks out there are yet another. It's tough processing all of it but just gotta keep trying.

gonna give up my job to start a PhD, gonna be giving up more than 200k per year for this PhD dream, for a chance to perhaps play a more active role in this AI revolution. In the end this PhD is another job, with much much higher ceiling but more time consuming and paid much much less. I won’t be able to tell if this is the right decision for 15 years.

AI is the future. I don't see how you could go wrong.

It's similar for me but for longevity science. Since we are at the start of a biotech boom, I don't want to miss my chance to contribute to research in aging. I've always been interested in immortality and lengthening the human lifespan, so I'm pursuing biomedical science. All the better for my luck is that I'm doing my honours (and hopefully PhD) in an institution that specialises in aging research.

Good luck and have fun, just don't breed an AI that's gonna wipe us out!

I'm on the fence about immortality but good luck and have fun as well!

After you finish your higher learning, do come back here. I want to know more about telomeres and longevity.

I wish you the best of luck, brother. Thank you for embarking on such a noble pursuit.
