Anybody knowing why and how skorea won the international softpower contest against japan?
1. Japan is fundamentally a xenophobic and isolationist country that tries to brag about how "hard" and "traditional" Japanese is. It's not inclusive, and people are happy to consume the cultural products without actually associating it with Japan.

2. South Korea didn't miss the internet and mobile revolution the way Japan did.

3. South Korea didn't get demonized in the 1980's the way Japan did.

4. South Koreans actively appropriate foreign cultures while Japanese hate associating with foreign cultures.

5. Weebs are weirdos while Kpop tries to look as attractive as possible.

Went to a blockchain event today. Listened to people speaking for hours and still don't get what NFTs and DAOs and smart contracts are.

I know blockchain is a thing, but I wonder if these NFT DAO smart contract things really mean anything in the world? Are these things really valuable, or are they just not important or even meaningless?

It's all fuckin vaporware. There is zero intrinsic value to any of this shit, only the value gamblers attach to it. Kids these days have the attention span of a goldfish and want to get rich quick. Some will, but at the expense of others stupidity. Finance is a zero sum game.

NFT are just a way to tell the people on a blockchain you own something, can be stoned ape jpegs or a house deed etc.

DAO is pretty much voting on a blockchain and your wealth can buy you potentially extra governance tokens/votes.
It's like an oligarchies wet dream, you're saying i can buy votes with my money and don't have to lobby anymore.

Smart contract is just a piece of computer code that runs on the block chain. So someone code a contract like "if person with #id1 deposit y on address#1, then pay person with #id2 z amount on address#2".

Its is kind of interesting as a developer to automate a lot of things, and most block chains and exchange actually have accessible API to consume. But i do agree it adds absolutely nothing materially to society its really a wall street and anarcho capitalist wet dream.

It's actually a net loss to society because of all the computing power and emissions that's wasted on mining shitcoins (aka 1s and 0s on a computer screen)

The technology is of value to some business, however the scammers/hypers/gamblers are making the value to be of the technology.

For example an NFT that is associate to an Chanel/LV bag could have some use to authenticate the real world item and also serves as a e-version of the owned bag.
Private blockchains could help communication thru long complex supply chains

Just a daily reminder that euro-dollar went from something like 1.17:1 to 0.99:1 in under a year.

European smooth brain governments be like:

" A weaker Euro will make our exports more competetive, hue hue."

I do wonder what we gonna export without the eletricity to produce anything more sophisticated than a claybrick.
