Quantum computing thread

That is what I mean about US silence on their quantum communications program.

They do not want to say anything about it.

Contrast that to how they boast they will make the fastest computer chip in the world in 2 to 3 years time. Current they do not even possess that tech, no one does. Yet, they boast.

When it comes to quantum communications they would not even boast.

So either they are way behind, or do not want anyone to know or to ask what are they doing.

The part in the article, where it says,

on using drones for quantum-entangled networks, but those who oversee these efforts don’t see how using a quantum technology that only works when satellite and ground station are in perfect alignment, marks much improvement on current systems.

That is completely bogus and total bs.

What they are talking about, "when satellite and ground station are in perfect alignment," that refers to line of sight.

Well, duh! 5G requires line of sight, why the commotion over that with Huawei, and not here?

That is just complete disinformation. They do not want anyone to know, or ask questions. Sort of like UFOs on the X-Files. And the cigarette smoking man.

The answer is obvious once you think about it.

Having unhackable systems would prevent the NSA from spying on their own citizens and allies. This would be completely unacceptable to the hegemon.

The US is not going to do any research on QC (at least publicly) and in the future will likely ban quantum communication systems on national security grounds. They might even create a fake QC system, the same way the US has fake 5G to prevent people from complaining.

We have fake 5G here because you could never get the unions to actually install real 5G. I would actually know this, since I'm involved with a company on it. America has lost its ability to build infrastructure.

On the Quantum front, I think it's just a matter of America not having prioritized it.

Most people that follow tech thinks that we are 5 years away from commercialization and that IBM/Google is a couple of years ahead of everyone. What Origin Quantum has done in the past year in terms of setting up mass production and commercialization of Quantum computing would shock pretty much anyone here in America. Hence, Biden admin's plan to sanction China on Quantum computing is quite foolish.

I believe the main goal of the sanctions does not have much to do with winning a tech race with China. What's most important for the US is that it keep China out of the EU and remains the technology hegemon among its allies. What they mind may not be that China has developed its own tech but that China is selling and sharing its tech, whether clean energy, EV, chips, space or quantum, thereby making the other nations less exploitable. Tech leadership legitimizes global leadership.

Given the rumors of possible sanctions on quantum computing, I'm wondering which part of quantum computing they cannot produce domestically or obtain abroad in the event of a sanction.
In this case, they developed ultra low temperature dilution refrigerator that satisfies the demand of quantum computer. Not sure what else is out there that needs to be developed. It even mentions that as a chokepoint problem that got solved. Looks like they were previously importing this from Western countries.

Anhui is becoming the center of Quantum computing efforts in China.

Given that they already want weak encryption ,quantum links will soon be banned in 5 eyes countries.

What do you mean fake 5g in America? Isn't it a little too much to be saying that without proof.

There are different types of quantum communication. The one being discussed here is the free space based i.e. quantum satellite based quantum communication. There's another one called fiber optics based quantum communication. The quantum satellite way is the frontier although China leads both paths.

Europe/ESA will launch a technology demonstration quantum satellite in 2024. If their prototype demonstration is successful than they may launch a real one further down the road. And Europe has the largest (read: only serious) space based quantum communication researchers outside of China. So, China is probably a decade ahead and has an ursurpassable lead here.

In fiber optics based quantum communication, Japan/Toshiba has the most advanced program outside of China. American national and military labs are building their quantum communication infrastructure using Japan/Toshiba technology like this one in Chicago, and they're also building in Virginia

Although S. Korea is also building fiber optics based quantum communication infrastructure but they're doing so using inferior technology from Switzerland/Austria due to obvious reasons

Lo Hoikwong who invented the decoy state in quantum communication returned to China last year. He was formerly a Professor at University of Toronto, and now at University of Hong Kong.

Professor Ma Xiongfeng and his team makes advances in quantum gate.

Ma Xiongfeng happens to be the person who first experimentally verified decoy state in quantum system.
