Do marksman get 1-4x28 LPVO scope while normal infantry get 3x or 4x32 ACOG? Why don't just give everyone LPVO? Isn't the 1x mode better for CQC?
no, you can do CQC with a fixed magnification optic fairly easily it's just training to shoot with both eyes open, you can also peak over the top of the optic for quick close-range shots. Also 1x on an LPVO still has a terrible eye relief so for in-door shooting you wouldn't be taking the time to line up the sight anyway just pointing and shooting.

Where did you get the information the LPVO is a 1-4x, seems fairly pointless offering only a 4x max magnification for the DMR.

A closer look at that optic.

From a General standpoint, a veritable power sight is always going to be heavier, more delicate and sensitive to abuse, higher cost of both production and training.

The LPVO has yet to be seen in use (as opposed to testing).

Currently the infantry QBZ-191s seem to be equipped with the fixed mag ACOG esque scope, while QBU191 uses a higher magnification scope it seems.

As for why not give everyone LPVOs rather than a fixed mag ACOG, probably cost/availability.

Not really. Plenty of DMR rifle in the last 20 years were 4x power. Before that it was also the norm. The PSO 1 was a 4x. The aim of the DMR is not to be a sniper. It’s to increase either the range or accuracy of the squad. DMR rifles are either the same caliber as the standard issue or a battle rifle category. In the standard issue class you have to consider the limitations of the cartridge as well as the role. The DMR gunner is still expected to operate with his squad in CQB and at range. This means you don’t generally want a higher power scope. A short dot like this is generally fair.

As others have already pointed out, LPVOs are a lot (as in up to several times) more expensive and heavier than prism sights like the ACOG and Chinese equivalent now being issued to frontline troops. They are also less robust and more likely to break due to the more complex design.

But the biggest issue with using them as a general infantry optic is the eyebox. If you ever used an LPVO, you will notice scope shadow as soon as your eye move out of alignment of the small cone of light the optics provides. That means you are never going to be as quick with a LPVO in close range, high movement aiming as you can with a prism or red dot. That is also why most shooters who use LPVOs also mount a back up micro red dot sight for close range work.

The weight and eyebox issues can be mitigated to a large extent, but then you are looking at several thousand dollars worth of optics, and even then it’s still only mitigated and will still have those issues, only less pronounced.

Youtube suggested this video to me randomly today, give it a look, it has some fantastic information about QBZ191 that are not discussed here!

It seems like the author watches sinodefense as well, and if you are reading this post, nice work on the video! Really enjoyed it.
