and i don't get why their weapons need to be enlarged versions of normal guns... i mean why go enlarge those weapons rather than simply hand them an artillery piece?
The Zion units fire rounds between 90-120 mm which put then in the area of tank guns. Several MS in gundam have large caliber gun allowing them to act as self propelled field artillery on 8th MS team the gundam carry a weapons pack that has in it a large gun allowing them to project pinpoint fire on the enemy. The Guntank, and Guncannon which carry heavy weapons.
