Principality of Zeon Military

Might be alternatively spelt Zion/Jion

I figured it'd belong here because fictional military isn't strictly "Military"

For those who don't get it. You know Trekkies who can cite the exact process of how a tractor beam works or Star Wars fans who can explain the hydraulics in an AT-AT? The Asian counterpart are Gunotas.

I grew up with this stuff. Well it was mainly aweful Hong Kong made dubs. First batch features Zeon initial invasion in North America.

After Operation British. Notice the big hole on the right? (it aimed for Jabro but got way off in trajectory and devastated Australia instead). Soon, the antarctic treaty was signed. With both sides neglecting use of WMDs, it wouldn't become a MAD scenario.

The Zaku, after precision warfare was made impossible, it was destined to become the mainstay force during the War of Independance for Zeon.

Decesive battle of Luom, the last blockade resulted in the E.F.'s defeat. The World was no longer safe from invasion.

Her Excellency Kycilia Zabi's Speech (translated from the Video)
The Eagle will land! This is a great step for us spacenoids! Following Commander Gihren's decision, we've launched a heavy rightious blow at Earth to commence the Zeonic War of Independence! However, those of the E.F. are still lagging behind, held down by gravity. The commander has informed me, Kycilia Zabi, that in order to ultimately bring down the Hammer od Justice, we will form a Gravity Warfront! For the sake of true freedom, we will swoop down into the agonizing gravity to initiate - the liberation of Earth! We, the 1st Terrestial Mobile Division, have already constructed a beachhead in Europe! We shall march westwards in order to subjugate the lands!

E.F. remnant Frederico Czariano and his platoon was able to hijack Zeon units and put up a Guerilla resistance in Arizona. Zeon test pilot Demiziere Sonnen whiped them out in a heroic battle and defended the stranded R&D staff of Jotunheim, but at the cost of his own life.

North America was transferred to the control of his excellence Garma Zabi. The young noble didn't want special treatment and participated in the campaign himself.

... i'm guessing this belongs in the gundam universe?

i always believe the only advantage of humanoid robots is that they look cool, that and NOTHING else. the two-legged robots depicted in the gundam or the macross or even the terminator series were all impractical in real world scenarios. the main drawback for 2-legged combat bots is that it's very easy to cripple one leg and immobilize them, where as a 6- or 8-legged -- or even better 6- or 8-wheeled -- bot have layers of built-in redundancy when it comes to mobility.

i did some work and research on AI and robotics when i was still in school. IIRC, it wasn't until the early 1990s when scientist and engineers were able to build 2-legged bots that can balance themselves and moving around at a reasonable pace.

Answer 1: The (real) Gundam Universe (not Gundam Wing, or SEED which boast with giant mecha rather than war scenarios) is an adult entertainment war scenario-based franchise. The next anime series involving Gundam thats going to be published started as novel. It explained the existance of giant mecha through means of politics and fictional scientific factors that screwed up classical precision warfare and pure AI systems as well as automatic targetting impossible. Zeon originally produced the MS for construction but developed it into warfare and their leader invested on it as mainstay force over other options. Giant human piloted mobile robots that are capable of more close up combat were successfully deployed at Luom resulting in Zeon victory, leading to both sides relying on them as mainstay force.

include multiple essays written by professors although they are all based on a fictional phenomen/theory that has never been proven in practice. As I mentioned, Gunota are the Asian Trekkies.

Building bipedal robots wasn't easy in the Gundam Universe either.

crippling one leg does not cripple the combat capacity of an atmosphere-based MS significantly as in combat the Thrusters are relied on more. MS have legs for

Atmospherical: Economic all-terrain movement without hindering of taking cover like human soldiers would.
Zero Gravity: Additional AMBAC system as well as specificated directional thruster mount points. In fact pure space use MS don't have feet.

lol, of course i know they're FICTION.

i liked both the gundam and the macross series. i agree with the subtle anti-war theme in most of them to a certain extent, although i find myself disagreeing with some of the statements made by the protagonists quite often, especially in Gundam Wing.

and the japanese aren't the only people with an obsession with humanoid robots either.

Zaku in front of White House and Zaku in front of Statue of Liberty as well as most of my used Screens are either from Gihren no Yabou (Gihren's Greed) or MS warfront photography albums. Japan and Mainland China have wonderful art, technical spec and special gift albums.

I also had a picture with the White House and Arc de Triomphe decorated with Zeonic flags and MS in front, but didn't find when I posted the above batch. Its probably too offending anyways.

yah... considering the many similarities between the zeon flag and a Nazi flag :p

with that said, i must say the Gundam series is NOT the exception to the rule here. i think japanese pop culture kinda has this obsession with the Nazi German military. there are quite a few anime series and popular works of fiction where the uniform, insignias and so on were very similar to that of the Nazis, and these weren't always the bad guys either.

btw, i googled for zeon memorabilia after posting. i saw this:

and i was like "cool, zeon undies!" but atlas, it was only a flag folded in a weird way.
