China is a civilization of longevity. What matters to us is not one puny little sporadic, occasional victory. What we need is the right to propagate and perpetuate our civilization, our heritage and our identity into the future. For this matter, we need to understand that we are a part of humanity, not just our own selfish vessels. No matter what the Americans say or even do now, they are still no doubt the current representation of humanity's best. That's why I have enough faith in the long term relationship between the West and China. Therefore, there is no point to elevate confrontation and segregation to the level of mutual exclusion and even destruction, just so that we can selfishly secure every measly little victory. The most important principle and values shall be guarded to our last drop of blood. But, leave spaces for our rivals to have a reach-around.

If we can't even survive the USA, which is pretty much the most highly civilized and benevolent Empire in the history of mankind; we would have no way of facing what comes after the USA.

I have to admit that Ultra is not completely crazy in his assessment.
In the current stage, the US-China relationship has suffered irreversible and irreparable damage and the chain reaction will continue. Tariffs could be reversed, destruction of a $100 billion company and Chinese sentiment cannot be reversed.

So we need ask ourselves what is the long term strategy of the US here.
1. Was this just Trump wanting a quick win for his reelection at the cost of permanent damage to US-China relations?
2. Was this sanctioned by Washington policy makers in preparation for full scale assault (Economic and/or military) China? This is not outside the realm of possibility because there is no turning back now, they have to push on or else China will just catch up again in 10 or 20 years. It's nip it in the bud now or never.
3. Can u guys think of other good reasons?

Trump is an idiot. Simple as that.

One thing you need to realize is - FEAR is what drives American culture to be the superpower that it is today. Fear made America strong by forcing them to be prepared. They are living in a constant existential crisis, and fear drives them to plan, to be prepared and to innovate. There is nothing that drives a man than existential crisis. Except Chinese LOL! Chinese never learn. EVER.

Chinese culture experienced countless existential crisis throughout human history and yet culturally Chinese are always unprepared. That's why Chinese suffers. And deservingly so.
