This system is very light weight I doubt it could get much bigger then it's current size for it's "Run". it seems to operate as a Wheel-less Wheel. supporting it's self on the Spokes of the wheel

I just saw on the news there's a UN conference in Geneva going on now to discuss "Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems." They're trying to decide if there should be a world wide ban.

It's all fun and games until the Weapons System decides that we all look alike. :D

If there was a "world-wide ban," it's articles like these where you're going to see how people justify their programs while expecting others to abide by the ban. The fact what this article advertises all depends on the creator not on the robot. That's where the spin on who's more responsible is the argument.

I think the philosophy goes since robots are for replacing human tasks, the aim is to make them look as human as possible. All sectors seem to aim to make them look human. I've see video of what are suppose to be research and development in experimenting with combat robots, I'm not sure if they were all from DARPA, but their basic functions are like a human. That's what I asked in my first post on this subject... Are they just appealing to people's vanity to gain support? Because in the end I bet the robot design for what's practical for combat is going to beat the one that looks human.

Suppose robots are not for combat role only, but as to replace soldiers in general, and will be require to do other tasks, then adopting human form might be best, as all military equipment (up to current anyway) are pretty much designed with a human form operator in mind.

A human form robot may be able to hop into a truck to drive, load artillery pieces, carrying wounded soldiers, serves as cooks and do maintenance what not, a specialized non-human form robot may excel in combat but may otherwise be idle.

Yeah but I think the notions that humans need robots to do their tasks suggest humans are not capable to do everything demanded. Sort of like when you hear mothers say their need another hand to care of their children. Robots can assist but to do the complete job on their own, the human form is not enough. You can program something AMEE to drive. There's nothing really exclusive that only humans can do when it comes to how they mechanically function.

Why bother? Sure you can try and get a Robot to drive but why not make the Vehicle a drone to? The Darpa challenge has proven that automated Vehicles can navigate themselves. and in fact a number of makers are looking to make drivers optional.

Long run though I just don't think we should be retiring the combat boots yet. Machines are still susceptible to any number of environmental factors. I think Humans will be beyond the wire for sometime to come.

You know we have gone over alot in this thread and one thing that surprises me is we have not covered true flight in powered exoskeletons. it may actually be possible but not like any Iron man armor. the start would have to be something like this.

Until they can make a robot juggle, do a cart wheel, climb a tree, shoot a gun, pedal a bicycle and tie a Fisherman's Bend knot (things most humans could do relatively easily with very little practice) an autonomous robot will always be just a single function specialized tool.
