Hey Mao, come down. I think zyun8288 meant the one in front of J-13/14 model is in fact a concept model of a Chinese space shuttle! So the article and the pic are all talking about the same thing. Just there happen to be a J-13/14 model also in the pic which confused us all (coz the J-13/14 model in that pic is much more clear than the Chinese space shuttle model in front). That's all.

I agree with Deino, this can be a display in Shenyang Aircraft Company.

The J-13/J-10 concept is right behind the two plane space orbiter. But it does not strike me as having canards. The intakes are MiG-25 like but are underneath two large LERX. There are no elevators either and the plane may be a pure delta in layout.

If you take the fan art plane posted in the first picture as comparision in the right hard corner, you remove the canards, and you more or less get an idea about this plane.

It is not however, some model of a concept never made it in the past because the rear nozzles are flat and obviously of a TVC type and at the same time, trying to reduce the IR signature. So its definitely a fifth gen concept.

This is 601's exhibition.

Obviously you haven't surfed chinese mil forums very long because this pic only surfaced less than 3 years ago.

BTW, I was just trying to help. I thought you, just as some other forumers in the last couple of years, did not notice that space shuttle model in the middle of the picture becuase it's not very clear. Anyway, forget it.

Hmmm ... I don't think so ! If You put both picture together in mind this fighter resembles more a Canadian CF-105 or US F-108 with huge boxy intakes and large diameter nozzles, only a small cockpit (mIG-25-like) and here two fins which are not stealthy ! ... esp. the wing looks just like a larger J-8 wing.

The boxy intakes are too hazy to make out in the picture. They are certainly located under a LERX. Does not matter what the shape of the wing is, there is no such thing whether a wing is more advanced by its shape. A wing is a wing, the physics remain the same for all time.

As you remember with the Li Peng J-10 model, the intakes should not be regarded as final.

What is clear is that the rear of the plane shows 2D TVC like nozzles, and vanes in an attempt to reduce IR signature.

Another thing is that the V shaped tail is not characteristic of a previous generation design but that of a new one.

I’m still not convinced as – IMO this can’t be a fifth generation design ! Especially as I don’t think that this is a canard nor a 2D TVC like nozzle.

If this is from a display during the mid- or late 80’s it would more fit to be a huge fighter project from the late 1960s to 1970s … and esp. as this is from SAC it could be one configuration of the still secret original J-10, that is sometimes reported to have a VG-design … maybe here in a different configuration with a delta-wing.

Another “hint” for that may be that “hidden” timeline behind the model arrangement … starting with the earlier designs … until the last, that could be a model of the SAC J-13 – the Chinese F-16 equivalent of the 80s !

That's what I'm try to say as well, Mao. There's a model of chinese space shuttle in the middle of that pic! So that's why that pic is related to the article. And I totally agree with you that both that pic and the article have nothing to do with J-13/14. So we should really move this thread to General Military!
