Is there any reliable estimates on how well these compare to the latest Russian Kilo variants?? I know sub's are also difficult to compare, but is there any publicly available info on acoustic performance of the latest gen of Kilo vs 039B's?

Unfortunately you wouldn't get the detail info. But I'd bet that Yuan class is far better than even the latest Kilo, remember Yuan is fitted with AIP. Also Chinese shipbuilding technology (debatable for Subs) is already far surpassed the Russian, let alone the capacity and capability

039 class/ NATO code :Song class - Only 1 boat built, with distinctive step sail.
039G class/ NATO code Song class - improved variant of 039 class - 12 boats built.
039A class/ NATO code Yuan class
039B class/ NATO code ???? - latest variant first showed up in April 2014.

Thanks a lot for the information icloo. Much appreciated. How many Yuan class boats are known to have been built till date? Are there any significant differences between the early and late build yuans? I have seen references to Yuan I and Yuan II, which IIRC seem to refer to the boats you refer to as the 039A class.

cheers

I don't have exact figure for Yuan class, I have seen a photo of around 8 Yuan in port, and I am sure there are more. Later yuan is definitely better than early ones, because they could add improved electronics as and when it is matured and available, though I don not know what they are, these are stuff agents will kill to get.

I think that there are thirteen of the original Yuan boats (and they may have individual upgrades but not enough for a new designation) and one of the newer "B" variants active. That would make 14.

I believe they are planning twenty...but am not sure on that. I do not know how many of those others may have been launched and are outfitting and preparing for sea trials to date.

See: THIS POSThttps://www.sinodefenceforum.com/pl...2-submarine-thread.t3746/page-284#post-363679https://www.sinodefenceforum.com/pl...2-submarine-thread.t3746/page-284#post-363679 for a nice diagram and picture of the "B" version.

We saw the first some time ago and posted pics of the real thing on this thread. The island leading edge gives away a Yuan "B" boat.

News from Pakistan

4 x SSK to be built in Karachi and 4 built by China

Construction to start simultaneously

Amazing news

Hopefully we get second strike on them

To be frank, I don't think the S-20 comes with VLS modules. Perhaps the Pakistani Navy bought a Pakistan-specific variant that does.
