My guess is that based on previous PLAN ships, about 30 to 40 years. The Sovs may still have a good 10 to 20 years of life ahead of them. There are ships older in the PLAN that are still in service. But I believe that decision will be subject to periodic evaluation, not just for the Sovs but for all the older ships.

But for now, the decision to refit all the Sovs appear to be a go, despite the controversy to its cost and value, and to whether the money and resources are better spent elsewhere.

Assuming a 35-year service life, the first pair of Sovs (136 and 137) will retire from the fleet in 2034 and 2035, followed by the second pair of Sovs (138 and 139) in 2040 and 2041.

There was another picture that came out for DDG 136 recently but nothing encouraging.

After a while some news have come out of this program. 137 now appears stripped.

This seems to be pointing to the direction that the refitting is still continuing. The question is where is 136 now and anyone can find photos of the "new" her.

136 sits low on the water while 137 sits high without the weight of her equipment.

136 does not have her ASM canisters but note the racks are already there.

I get the impression there are three racks all abreast there.
