Chinese AIS system to identified ship in SCS using Beidou
Anyone who ignore the primordial truth "peace through strength" (which, mind you, the US is the firmest believer, goes all the way back to the founding fathers including George Washington) is being naive at best, delusional at worst.Wow, fantastic photos & developments. Hopefully, ASEAN & China will conclude a pragmatic & mutual benefit agreement, when the "Code of Conduct" is finally agreed/implemented. Importantly, it should be realistic, based on trust & friendship among countries in the region. A Dream? Well, a dream can turn into a reality IF diplomacy & mutual understanding & benefits are the goals.
Even the Malaysian Swiflet Island (land reclaimation started in the late 80s after sinking 2 pontoons on the reefs to stake a legal claim) in the Spratly also planted mostly fir trees. If you have ever visited almost all of Malaysia's famous beaches, fir trees are planted. Fir trees can grow very well and holds the land better and deeper as well as are better wind breakers.Construction quality looks like a computer game. Wow. My only complaint is they are planting cedar/fir to save water(?) I was expecting coconut/palm trees
Sorry..it should be Swallow reef, not Swiflet.. Both birds look very similar.Even the Malaysian Swiflet Island (land reclaimation started in the late 80s after sinking 2 pontoons on the reefs to stake a legal claim) in the Spratly also planted mostly fir trees. Anyway, Malaysia wanted to lay claim to more of the atolls but the Vietnamese and Phillipines militaries kept blowing up the Malaysian markers. Malaysian Navy in return blew up their rivals' markers. That was the order of the day then. PRC was a bit late in the race and ROC, although being the first claimant was militarily and economically weaker and after 1972 was not even recognised as a country by most ASEAN nations. I wrote a thesis on the SCS dispute more than 30 years ago.

it'sOn August 3, the ABS-CBN radio and television station in the Philippines reported that as three Filipino citizens were taken hostage in Libya, Philippine President Duterte claimed that he would send a frigate to the Libyan coast to rescue the Filipino hostages. What is strange is that the Philippine media used the Chinese Navy's 054 frigate to map the news. Considering President Duterte’s great efforts in developing friendly relations between China and the Philippines, the Philippine media’s “eager” equipment to build Chinese frigates should be understandable, because on July 30, China donated only four ships to the Philippines. A patrol boat equipped with 30 40mm grenade launchers will help the Philippines improve its coastal patrol capabilities. How did the Philippine Navy develop and what historical entanglements have it with China? This issue is focused on the Philippine Navy. (View full content search WeChat public number: sinamilnews)
