Thanks for the clarification, now it totally makes sense, almost like runway lights to line up to for a ship entering the channel.

Most likely used as an under water unmanned scout drone to see what submarines are coming in and out of that secret Hainan island submarine base.

what to hear a retired US official explain why these type of "recon" mission is going on constantly? what this.

fast forward to about 34:23, give it a few minutes or watch the whole thing if you have the time. unbelievable.

"Aggressive US naval reconnaissance along Chinese coast both on air, on water and under surface -- designed to provoke Chinese into reactions to test their defenses and to choreograph ways through them. Very threatening. Very annoying. Every Chiense senior military leader of military region along the coast has experienced this first hand. If you wanted to socialize a group of people into hostility towards you, you could not pick a better method of doing it."

My god, this is terrifying.

That is why I don't believe in the SCS drama because knowing full well the media hyped it is meant to instigate political tension among the playing state of the disputed territories.

that's actually not what I meant by unbelievable. did you get to the good part? about why the mission went from once a week to once a day.
