Nice references...though you will see some of the info is lacking even on the ONI.

For example, they just list "Hull 3- Hull6" for the latest four Type 052C builds...when we know better here on SD.

A new frigate, the Sanmenxia, is commissioned into PLA Navy's East Sea Fleet. The commissioning ceremony was held at an undisclosed naval port in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province. The frigate Sanmenxia is the lead ship in its class. Its hull identification number is 593. The Sanmenxia features the most advanced fire-control system, command control and combat coordination technology in China.

The Sanmenxia is the first Type 056 ASW variant...but it is still a Type 056 frigate.

I am not aware of the PLAN naming them a Type 056A...but I guess they could have.

But it was actually commissioned in November of 2014, six months ago I thought.

When it was commissioned, sixteen of the General Purpose Type 056s had already been commissioned.

Now, there have been a total of seven more ASW variants launched and two more General Purpose ones.

This makes a total of twenty-five Type 056 light frigates launched since May of 2012. Twenty-five in three years.
