South China Sea Fleet landing ship flotilla conducts three-dimensional landing drill
A three-dimensional landing drill started recently in certain waters in the South China Sea. A landing ship flotilla under the South China Sea Fleet of the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) cooperated closely with a marine brigade and an aviation regiment of the PLA Navy and conducted the drill on such subjects as three-dimensional delivery of landing troops and capturing target position.
The reporters learned at the drill site that the “two-dimensional landing” operation began immediately after receiving the order from Ji Hongtao, commander of the landing ship formation. The cabin doors of the landing ships that had sailed into designated waters were opened quickly and the landing troops sailed their assault boats and launched sudden and violent attacks against the target position.
Meanwhile, the “vertical landing” operation started instantly. Helicopters carrying commandoes took off from the warships, flew to the depth of the target position and vertically delivered the commandoes to the ground so as to cooperate with the landing troops in making a breach.
In the waters where the landing ships assembled, the hovercraft carrying landing troops and amphibious assault vehicles left the dock for the beach at a high speed. After landing, the reconnaissance element immediately carried out infiltration operation. Eventually, the target position was captured successfully by the officers and men.
that is exactly the kind of amphibious operations that we like to see, a air and sea deployment, synchronized and well co-ordinated using multiple assets in synergy
China must do more of these kind of excercises to train its Navy for landing and securing beech heads and making headway inland, because that is the kind of war China might be fighting next
China now has lots of assets, and it has to use them in the more effective and efficient way, to get maximum out of them
communication, intelligence, planning and changing tatics whilst in the midst of battle, all these things contribute to a victory
once more LPDs start joining in these kind of excerses will become much more important and vital to train more and more marines
lets hope we can see naval varients of the WZ-10 attack helo, they would be great assest for fire supression on enemy positions ahead of a beech landing
i count 8-9 landing ships and 1 LPD, giving a pretty large landing party the size of a big regiment

The "Zheng He" oceangoing training ship of the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army ((PLA) which is on the "Harmonious Mission – the 'Zheng He' oceangoing training ship's voyage around the world" berthed in the Djibouti Port of the Republic of Djibouti at 08:00 of May 20, 2012, local time, for a two-day-long in-port rest and replenishment. This is the first berth of the "Zheng He" ship since its voyage around the world.
During the berth time, the "Zheng He" ship will be scheduled to focus on equipment maintenance and replenishment, organize its officers and men as well as the midshipmen on the ship to visit in batches, and be open to staff of the Chinese embassy and the China-funded institutions in Djibouti for visit.
