type730 (7x 30mm) CIWS:

Just wonder how type-730's ammunition is stored and loaded. Look at those ammunition boxes on the ground. How many rounds each box? I counted 18 boxes totally, if those are for the 730, they'll be expensed in less than 1 minute.

I think one minutes worth of continuous firing is the max we can expect from this thing.

For comparison the phalanx spec:

The Block 0 CIWS mounts (hydraulic driven) fired at a rate of 3,000 rounds per minute and they could only hold 989 rounds in the magazine drum.[4] The Block 1 CIWS mounts (hydraulic) also fired at 3,000 rounds per minute with an extended magazine drum holding 1,550 rounds. The Block 1A and newer (pneumatic driven) CIWS mounts fire at a rate of 4,500 rounds per minute and also had the larger 1,550 round magazine.

That's half minute continuous firing at best. And they are reloaded manually and it takes half an hour.

CIWS is for last line defense. I think it is for dealing with the odd target slipping through, not saturation attacks. The new missile CIWS might be more capable.

Maybe each box holds 100 rounds. That'll be 1800 rounds, a reasonable number.

South China Sea Fleet landing ship flotilla conducts three-dimensional landing drill

M5h1k.jpg

A three-dimensional landing drill started recently in certain waters in the South China Sea. A landing ship flotilla under the South China Sea Fleet of the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) cooperated closely with a marine brigade and an aviation regiment of the PLA Navy and conducted the drill on such subjects as three-dimensional delivery of landing troops and capturing target position.

The reporters learned at the drill site that the “two-dimensional landing” operation began immediately after receiving the order from Ji Hongtao, commander of the landing ship formation. The cabin doors of the landing ships that had sailed into designated waters were opened quickly and the landing troops sailed their assault boats and launched sudden and violent attacks against the target position.

Meanwhile, the “vertical landing” operation started instantly. Helicopters carrying commandoes took off from the warships, flew to the depth of the target position and vertically delivered the commandoes to the ground so as to cooperate with the landing troops in making a breach.

In the waters where the landing ships assembled, the hovercraft carrying landing troops and amphibious assault vehicles left the dock for the beach at a high speed. After landing, the reconnaissance element immediately carried out infiltration operation. Eventually, the target position was captured successfully by the officers and men.
