Wow! Amazing conversion of a container ship to a helicopter carrier (First pictures in this thred). Where do you find these pictures?
Are there any specifics about this vessel, or how many they have made? Was this just a temporary conversion to see if it’s feasible in a war time situation?

That's not really a helo carrier..just a training vessel.no hangar no permanent crew..no weapons. Only one ship was so configured.

I don't know where swimmer got that picture.. he seldom visits the forum these days

This may be "first real action: of any PLAN ship in the Mediterranean other than a port visit or training.

BEIJING, March 1 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese navy frigate has already reached mission waters off Libya on Tuesday to offer support and protection for ships evacuating Chinese nationals.
　　
The frigate, Xuzhou, met with a Greek merchant vessel chartered by the Chinese government carrying evacuees, and started its escort mission.
　　
The frigate was previously on an escort mission in the Aden Gulf, where shipping is vulnerable to attacks from pirates.
　　
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, China has altogether pulled out about 32,000 nationals from Libya as of 2 p.m. Tuesday.
　　
Among the evacuees, 9,000 were back in China, roughly 21,000 were in a third country, while 2,100 were on their way to a third country

This may well be 1 of the longest operational deployment of a PLAN warship yet, considering that she just completed her tour of duty in Gulf of Aden and is supposed to sail back to her home base. Instead, she is now in the Med doing escort missions.

I reckon the captain of that ship will see his fortunes in the PLAN rise after this episode, and the crew is likely to be given a hero's welcome when they reach home base.
