I think he means used for transport but obviously ASW helos and interesting pic !

But then his statement is wrong or at least misleading when he meant here they are used for COD but not ASW:

Anyone got idea, photo even better, that Ka- series can land on 056? My further thought is: just like PLAN is replacing all HHQ-7 with HHQ-10, what's the possibility Z-9 can be replaced, considering its size and short combat radius? I do read this article claiming even shorter than Chinese-ASROC. Concern is of course about logistics, which now do rise in PLAN strategy, and I think it's a right issue at right timing. I know OTOH it provides flexibility of 3~5 tones. But I don't see any main carrier-operating country using such level. Quick thought...

Z 9 is medium size helicopter . It has it limitation like it doesn't carry their own on board sonar processing and carry no MAD.But it is still useful with their data link and sonar.

With better dipping sonar range than the Russian Ka 28. It can act as sensor to sniff Submarine with its radar and sonar
In conjunction with Type 56 on board computer and ASROC it is deadly.

China can use Z15 as replacement It is 8 ton and has bigger engine and range as well as more room to carry equipment. It is ready as soon as they certify WZ 16 which will happened this year
Z15 is compact enough to fit into type 56 corvette that is now become the main ASW corvette. See the photo of type 56 and Z9

People make too much of Mil standard But today we see YF 12 now use as military transport with no problem It start life as civilian transport too. BTW YF 12 is the product of Harbin aerospace the same company that produce Z15

Z15 is compact enough to fit into type 56 corvette
50% longer,twice heavier- Z-15's almost full-sized heavy helicopter.
Not everything what "fits" can actually be safely used in foul weather from such platform.

Hard to be sure, but lets see actual operation from such a small vessel first.

p.s. Ka-28 as ASW helicopter is simply old. While it's indeed by far the smallest(excluding height) heavy ASW helicopter in termps of footprint, to be relevant in this role upgraded ones shall be used(like recent Ka-27M). And even if capable to land - you'll still have to somehow feed it.

How much aviation fuel type 56 can carry?
