Have they sustained any flight operation with a full deck load of aircraft, deck equipment and ammunition yet? Or has it just been a handful of aircraft practicing rudimentary landings and take offs?
Of course not. And it would be completely unreasonable to expect that they would have at this point.
They do not have a full squadron of J-15s. They have only a few, and the majority of those are not full production aircraft. So, they have practised and trained with what they have, which has involved first qualifying the aircraft for the carrier with test pilots I am sure. And then getting a group of pilots who had been through their new Naval Aviation Facility, qualified for fair weather take-off and landings. Which they have done. I expect with their next deployment, they will get another group of pilots trained.
At some point, when they have more aircraft and have established all of their procedures, they will progess on to more difficult landings and take-offs, and landings and take-off with various load-outs.
But a person cannot run until they learn how to walk, and the PLAN is learning how to walk with their new naval air assets. To date, in my estimation, what they have done if fairly impressive. I expect that to continue until they have two full squadrons on the Liaoning, and then begin commisisoning and deploying more carriers and air wings.
