The aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan leads participants of Exercise RIMPAC (Rim of the Pacific) 2014 in a Fleet Formation serial, in which 38 warships and four submarines sailed in close formation. The evolution took 11 hours of careful manoeuvring in close company off the coast of Hawaii and tested the seamanship skills of bridge watchkeeping staff. Once in formation, the units were photographed from the air.

Great photos Jeff. I meant 20 or 25 years in the future, a high res photo of a Chinese taskforce with 3 CATOBAR super carriers, 8 type 55 cruisers and two dozen new destroyers and frigates roaming the pacific. :)
Okay.

Intially you said a reinforced CSG and with the Type 071 and its escorts, that is what you had in the South China Sea.

If you mean several Chinese carriers...well, we will have to wait a few years for that.

But they will get there.

More GREAT RIMPAC 2014 pictures. The exercises are winding down now. Many vessels have already returned to Pearl Harbor. But it's been an OUTSTANDING set of exercises and I believe the PLAN has particpated in a professional manner and been well represented.

This is something we have all anticipated for well over a year now, since it was first announced. Some were anxious about the PLAN's part in it...how many ships they would send...what exercises they would be involved in...etc. I think it has turned out very, very well. An experience that those involved will never forget.

I am sure the PLAN personnel had to be impressed...and in turn, I am sure that they impressed others as well.

She's correct. Special forces..EOD , SEALs etc are being inserted into a hostile zone via the CH-53 & in what appears to be a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat..

the term Frogman has not been used for decades...Just sayin'..

I used to do running so I had a look at

the current minimum Navy Physical Screening Test Run requirements (the last row in the table at the bottom of that document)

which at first glance looked soft (for example, corresponding roughly to 13 minutes for three kilometers) but then I realized the candidates would first take a swim followed by three workouts and would run afterwards ... which is tough, I guess :)

I'll be throwing up even before the run start if I tried that today.:p

Yes.

A US Marine CH-53E Super Stallion special operations helicopter is inserting a partner/allied nation recon team into the water while hovering. You see them exiting the ramp onto a RHIB, carried by the helicopter, at the rear of the helicopter in the spray kicked up by the downwash of the helicopter.

That would be either a highly trained Marine recon unit or special forces, and they will proceed from there onto shore to accomplish their mission.

Great training. Our allies love these exercises because they get the opportunity to work closely together and jointly accomplish these type of missions. Even this training is dangerous...but necessary if you want to maintain such capabilities to call upon them if they are ever needed.
