during the mid-80's USN has plan to developed particle beam mounted in CV,test show in white sand ,new mexico proving ground,particle beam do not need direct hit to destroyed the missile,.even just error of just few inches,is sufficient to fry missile electronic. or detonate the explosive charge in the missile.
due to the technical program, the plan was abandone,but resurrected in the 90's as "Have grace" program, proposal to replace Aegis forward 5 inches gun turrent with chemical laser to augment the SAM defense.

Why hasn't Chinese ships incorporate the FLN-3000(missile interceptor) yet?
Is that because its close-in gun is so good enough there's no need for FLN-3000? (missile interceptor)
anyway, It's always good to have redundancy in layered defense approach.
I thought the 054A would feature the FLN-3000, but I was wrong.

It can do exoatmospheric midcourse interception but not ready for sea level interception?

I don't know what is up with you and these topics these days. I've said before that China is going with guns for CIWS and FL-3000N seems to be for exports. They just need to keep on improving the accuracy/guidance, firing rate and muzzle velocity of current gun.

Another reason may be no one in the neighborhood is using supersonic missiles (except India and Russia), and guns are sufficient for subsonic missile defense. The possibility of righting India in India ocean is rather remote, and Russia is currently an ally.

I believe the weapon in question is FL-3000N.
It is more or less something like US's RAM.
