Re: Latest Varyag Pics

In my klowlidge Varyag never had any engines fitted in first place...

But we have to remember that Varyag was only 60% finnish and as it is a huge ship to any shipbuilders standart, it is still propaply in very early phase...i don't know much about shipbuilding and someone else might have been following this Varyags story much more closely so i'm asking now; How long has Varyag been on that shipyard? Is it possiple that it will be moved to some another shipyard for final fitting of all onboard systems? Why is there still so much scaffoldings around the island? How many shipyards there is in china that could hold Varyag? Why has this shipyard obviosly spesifically build for Varyag (or at least enlargened) ? Whats the mystic blue structure in the peer side? What's the meaning of life? WHy does teflon sticks to cattle if it's supposed to be unstickable.........????? :p

Building the Varyag will be very risky for the PLAN.

dalian ship yard was selcted because it is the largest, deepest, and most experienced and advanced shipyard chian had. this the same ship yard that built the 52c, 52, and is building the 51cs. the chinese also built hundred of 100000+ ton tankers and transports at this shipyard.

the blue building may have been used to house equipments for varyag. u.s sattelites are good, but they can see through buildings!!
the yaryags main hull is already finished, but the chinse still need to fit planes, piping, wiring, weapons...on.
if varyag already has any one or more of these componenents, then we must wonder how the plan managed to aquire these systems undetected.

Well piping and wiring isn't a big problem. They can simple do it themselves or ask russia for help..i'm not sure about the weapons and engine...is it posible they alredy have them asseblied and are waiting to be fitted?

thats where the blue building comes into play...
but i dont now how china could have aquired weapons for the carrier in complete secrewcy unless it made the weapons itself rather than buy them. as for engines, the chinese could easily by a engine meant for a 100000+ ton
tanker or trasnport and diverted it to the carrier. the chinese may have then used some shanxi diesels to boost speed.

not really, the Chinese shipbuilding industry is very advanced now. It is building some huge tankers.

Both of you are correct to some extent. Building a warship is different than building a tanker. For one the compartments on a warship are much smaller therefore more numerous in number. A warship requires greater water tight integrety, more fire fighting systems. A tanker has large open spaces and more automation.

I think the Chinese are deffinetly capable of building larger warships. We just have to wait and see.

"The carrier is surrounded with heavy security in Dalian, which bars civilian access; police flank the shipyard entrance. This fueled speculation that the Varyag is being used by the Chinese military. It is not evident that China could actually turn Varyag into an active military warship, since he is badly deteriorated. Presently 70 percent complete, Varyag displaces about 33,600 tons [versus the 67,000-ton design displacement]. Varyag no longer has the nuclear reactors that were installed by the Ukrainian state-run Generating Systems of Crimea. Electronics were either never fitted or removed before he was sold."

Can anyone confirm Globalsecurity's claim that the Varyag was, at one time equipped with nuclear reactors, that were later stripped?

Both the Admiral Kuznetsov and Varyag were built at the Nikolayev South Shipyard in Ukraine. It's said that the Kuzenetsov is equippedw ith 8 boilers and 4 steam turbines, conventionally-powered. Was the Varyag intended to be nuclear powered or CONAS (combined nuclear & steam)?

yeah, propaply, thougth if considering the ammount of posting it caused in that mentioned forum, It could have been nuclear-weapon stockpile...:nana:

But Varyag never intented to have Nuclear reactors, and i dont think that ukrainians would have installed those and then removed...
