Re: PLAN Carrier Construction

CAT for USS R. reagan CV is 300 ft long. is this a standard lenght?
There are a number of critical dimensions for the C-13-01 and C13-02 Catapults, which are the catapults used on all current Nimitz classs US Nuclear carriers. Three of the principle ones are:

Catapult Length: 324' 10" (-01 and -02)
Cat Power Stroke: 309' 9" (-01)
Cat Power Stroke: 306' 9" (-02)
Cylinder Bore: 18" (-01)
Cylinder Bore: 21" (-02)

Here's a grest PDF file about everything you could want to know about Steam Powered Catapults:

Now, the French use the C13-03 catapult which is a particular version made for the French Charles de Gaulle, which is about 250' long.

Re: PLAN Carrier Construction

something I think we should point out about the Ulyanovsk was that her CAT's were meant for AEW craft.I don't think the Russians ever meant for SU33's or any other fighters to ride them. with the Termination of the Ulyanovsk the YAK 44 AEW was scrapped too.

The thing with the Chinese military is that they spend as much time to study others as they spend studying themselves

A huge amount of resources is put into watching its neighbours, wether that be India, Japan or a Joint American-South Korea training excercise you can bet Chinese military is studying and observing what others are doing in the region

They also asses the capabilitys of thier neighbours in detail, so I think the Ulyanovsk design is something that China has studied back to back so see how and if it can work in PLAN

Absolutely LOVE this video!

We are looking at a commissioned USS Wasp operating an in-service, US Marine active Squadron aircraft off of her deck.

Not a prototype, not a manufacturer's test aircraft...but an in service US Marine aircraft.

The F-35B is going to add a huge new dimension to US Navy Amphibious Assault carriers and a lot of worry to any adversary.

Great video Jeff. Brings a question to mind.. How much of a load can an F-35B take off with? I did notice that the aircraft was air borne before she reached the bow. And I do realize the aircraft has a light load..just fuel.

Don;t forget pop's F35 has internal carriage. that means she can look clean but hide 1500lb's of venom, except for her gun pod ( which for the marines and navy have to be external) the video bird could have a air defense load and we would not know about it unless the pilot decided let us in on it.

The plan for the F-35B is for it, with a full run off of a WASP or AMERICA, to be able to take off with a full combat load, internal and external...with full fuel.

Clearly, the heavier she is, and the more initial vertical lift she has to employ, the more fuel she will use. But she can be refueled if necessary too.
