IMP3.jpg I believe this is the third SURTASS ship. Also notable is that the sheds are nearly empty besides the Coast Guard vessel. There used to be a Type 054A, a Type 056, and the new generation cutter in the sheds, and they're all gone. Presumably launched and fitting somewhere.

Chinas self-developed underwater glider "Haiyan" has broken the world record of deep-sea dive by going down to a depth of 8,213 meters below sea level. The underwater glider, carried on board the submersible mother ship Xiangyanghong 18, returned to eastern China's Qingdao City on Saturday after finishing the dive in the Mariana Trench, known as the world's deepest sea trench.

Storyline

China's self-developed underwater glider "Haiyan" has broken the world record of deep-sea dive by going down to a depth of 8,213 meters below sea level.

The underwater glider, carried on board the submersible mother ship Xiangyanghong 18, returned to eastern China's Qingdao City on Saturday after finishing the dive in the Mariana Trench, known as the world's deepest sea trench.

"We had fully tested the performance of Haiyan deep-sea underwater glider in a series of standard sea trials. During the six-day dive in the waters near the Mariana Trench, it dived as deep as 8,213 meters, breaking the world record depth of about 6,000 meters," said Wang Yanhui, leader of the underwater glider development project.

Experts said the dive is a milestone for China's development of underwater research equipment.

"It is a historic step in China's deep-sea observation. The successful development of the deep-sea underwater glider will guide and stimulate the advance of China's unmanned deep-sea research equipment," said Wu Lixin, director of Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology.

The Chinese are experienced ship builders since the time of Adm Zeng He in the 15th Century. They have & are now building modern warships & I believe Chinese littoral ships are being offered for sale to some ASEAN countries at very competitive prices,

Interesting apparently China did capture American and Japanese AUV FromHenri K blog
US AUVs, used to record acoustic data near Hainan Island, were found by China in 2012 and 2015. US and Japanese acoustic buoys placed near the Chinese aircraft carrier port at Qingdao were also captured in 2013.

IANJIN, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Haiyan, a Chinese underwater glider, has set an endurance record among its domestic peers after working for 119 days in the South China Sea.

Codenamed Haiyan, which means storm petrel in Chinese, the glider was safely recovered from the northern part of the South China Sea Monday.

The glider, developed by a team from Tianjin University, sailed 2,272.4 km over four months, a domestic record.

In April, Haiyan set a world dive record by diving 8,213 meters in the Mariana Trench, the world's deepest known trench.

The unmanned gliders can survey marine conditions, such as temperature, salinity and currents, in large bodies of water over a long period of time.

Yup slowly but surely the building block of "Undersea great wall" come into being
From Henri K blog. This is definitely sonobuoy to hunt submarine add to that SURTASS, KQ200, Glider, Data fusion center, maritime Satellite,Type 56, fiber optic, cable laying ROV you see a formidable anti Sub system is slowly forming

The HM500T sonobuoys, designed by the CSIC Institute 710 to measure background noise, surface and subsea acoustic signals, and automatically alert to particular signals, have completed their first test in the South China Sea.
