i bet to the untrained eye when people see the Type 054A they dont know its PLAN ship, looks totaly amazing in the water

Most still held the notion that China have nothing but crappy old ex-Soviet boats, now only the N.Koreans maintain such visage...though you can still tell a PLAN ship by the way they paint their pennant numbers.
But that might not be long however, recently photos from China sites indicates the experiment of "westernizing" the pennant number styling is moving forward...Sovremenny class DDG 136 Hangzhou got the new styling too.
All modern PLAN major surface combatants built after the mid 90s have water desalination plants on board, even the last batch of Jianghus, both 112 and 113 had them from the beginning. However PLAN is cheap so they'll opt for port replenishment if there is already a port call scheduled. Also the two 052s rarely travel on their gas turbines to save on fuel and wear, 112's trip to the US in 1997 was almost done entirely on its diesel engines, the only time gas turbines were used was when impurity was found in one diesel fuel tank and the engine was down for cleaning.

I think in the coming years China will be able to spare for long duration atleast 3 x Type 054As, 2 x Type 052Cs, a Type 071 LPD, 2 replenishment ships including a Fuchi class and atleast 1-2 SSKs

From various JCZS magazine articles (especially details about the 112 trip to the US) and watching all those Military Reports on CCTV7 over the years. If I can still locate that 1997 JCZS issue I'll scan it.

Why don't they deploy HJ-8 missiles on their trips? All it takes is one shot to take out a boat.
