so Liaoning still use the four original engines (refurbished)? ... really hard to believe
We have more than a century experience in sea going steam turbines so building and maintaining them shouldn't be much of a problem. There were problems with the boilers of Vikramaditya. So how were Liaoning's boilers?so Liaoning still use the four original engines (refurbished)? ... really hard to believe

Why would it be limited to 4 ?Liaoning needs 150MW of power, but four of China turbine engines QC280 can only generate about 100.

Me too. The ship is not even commissioned yet and it's running on 30 yr old Russian engines. As much as PLAN gutted the entire ship they must have figured it wasn't necessary to put new engines in there but I imagine the new equipment, sensors etc would require a lot more power than Varyag ever did.Honestly I thought Liaoning was fitted with modern Chinese Gas turbines

I'm not sure if the guy is implying liaoning still has the same ones or that it sailed to china with them on board but have since been replaced. If the former than it would be dissappointing news indeed.
