Holy Geezus! That looks awesome! I hope it's real! If it is, the world is going to sh*t in their pants even if it isn't on par with the top fighters.

Althoug it may look cool, it doesen't give you the right to post oneliners....if i spot one more "gee, its a real nice one..." type of oneliners, those will be deleted and wanrings will follow!!

But to the point. This new bigger and colourfull pic confirmed my doupts...it's a fake, a good one but still a fake. Just look at it more carefully (whitout those PLAAF eyeglasses) and you'll noticed it too. Also how could it be real? China has only now fielding an adequate fighter design wich could be mach for the rest of the world (still lacking almoust 15 years behind the developing speed of the west) after 30 years of it's indegenious fighter building programs...be realistic, i agree, i would love to see this or any other new chinese fighter project in the air, but as i said we need to be realistic in here.

Tough i could be wrong now....by all means prove that i am...but i don't think so,

...so we won't get fooled again? right?

If you look at the "newspaper" carefully, it appears that the picture was cut and paste into it - it still has the digital photo water mark (e-mail?) in lower left corner.

As for the photo itself, it's most likely fake. I'm sure everyone remember all the fake J-10 photos being passed around for years.

yup. it still has the [email protected] watermark from the computer image. so its likely a fake. if u compare the quality of the pic to others in the newspaper, youl notice it is indeed cG. should we email the guy and tell him to stop making fake pics?

What types of planes are these and what are they doing? Looks like re-fueling but a different technique? Can anyone tell me?

hey T-MC-G welcome to SDF, watchout for the oneliner rule although in picture threads if your carious about something like this; it doesn't much hurt you ;)
But yeah to the point those are Russian Su-30 Flankers doing mid-air refueling during Peace Mission 2005 (Sino-Russo Wargames just August or July this year). They use the probe and drogue way, like the USN and the rest of the world (not USAF boom and receiver way). The Russians were just demostrating to the PLAAF the re-fueling capibalties of that IL-76 tanker, since China has Su-30MKK, Su-27SK, and J-11s and lack air-refueling planes..

Thanks swimmerXC!! Sorry about one lining on my first post. Well...slightly off-topic... I am writing a paper and preparing a briefing in one of my classes on the increasing force of various Air Forces to the USAF and respectfully so the chance for a reduction in USAF dominance. The PLAAF seemed to be the number one force so I was doing some research. Any more info or sources would be greatly appreciated!

I didn't even notice that until you just mentionned. It was pretty fishy right from the start when the picture wasn't clear enough to show the text of the article.

btw, it's IL-78 Midas tankers, not IL-76.

actually, i think they are chinese mkks fueling off of a russian il-787. russia doesnt operate su-30s. the same pic is on sinodefence, and it gives the explanation.
