I've got one question about the new gold and black leather belt. People on Chinese BBS say there are two main reasons for keeping the leather belt tradition on the new 07 uniform. One is that from the past experience leather belt can be a very useful defense weapon (I can imagine). The second is in Chinese view leather and gold mean expensive. So in non combat situation this leather belt looks better than the combat (fabric/plastic) belt, which also comes with the 07 uniform. Any idea why?

Thank God the PLA finally replaced the previous summer uniform shirt. The shirt that this admiral is wearing and how it's worn looks smarter and serious. Because the old shirt made it's wearers look too guido-ish and like their getting ready to go to club.

Too western? Too western looking BDU's?
A Military uniform is a military uniform!. BDU's Aka utillities aka Cammies are buil for function, Service uniforms are made too look good but be buisness like functional around base and in inspection. these have the right idea although I think the BDU's pockets could be changed some.

I can understand the Western style BDUs, since in combat the goal is to provide the soldiers with the best possible, but why must the dress uniforms look so similiar to American ones also? Having American-style uniforms will not increase the military capability of the PLA one bit!

They are not just American... Take a good look around those have a Multinational look. they could be in any national Armed force.
look these things are supposed to have a degree of fashion and reflect the times in witch they are created or some tradition, (on a personal note I feel the tie has to go! in every Uniform... The thing started as a bib and now it's not even that! )
