From now on, the organizational structure of the People's Liberation Army branches are as follows:

Four Major Military Services:
1. People's Liberation Army Ground Force (PLAGF)
2. People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN)
3. People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF)
4. People's Liberation Army Rocket Force (PLARF)

Four Independent Arms (directly subordinated to the PLA Central Military Commission):
1. People's Liberation Army Aerospace Force (PLASF?)
2. People's Liberation Army Cyberspace Force (PLACF?)
3. People's Liberation Army Information Support Force (PLAISF?)
4. People's Liberation Army Joint Logistics Support Force (PLAJLSF?)

So the same thing but more IT focus?

If my understanding is correct, the PLASSF just got split up into 4 different arms that will be directly subordinated to the PLA CMC.

I'm thinking that these 4 arms that were once departments subordinating to the PLASSF got their positions and importance elevated with this move.

Though, as more information is yet to be released, my current understanding on this matter might not be fully accurate.

The JLSF has always been its own thing since the early 10s reforms, no?

I remember back when I was just lurking, @taxiya would often highlight that the PLASSF's name indicated it wasn't a “军”/branch and that this was a meaningful difference in PLA considerations (and the PLASSF already reported directly to the CMC before this split). Maybe these reforms are mostly just a recognition that the space, cyber and information domains lack enough synergies to be led by the same staff?

General
China has formally established the Information Support Force, to be directly commanded by the Central Military Commission.

PLA Embraces a New System of Services and Arms: There are four services, namely the Army, the Navy, the Air Force and the Rocket Force, and four arms, including the Aerospace Force, the Cyberspace Force, the Information Support Force and the Joint Logistics Support Force. PLA Strategic Support Force is revoked:

"With the latest reform, the PLA now has a new system of services and arms under the leadership and command of the CMC. There are four services, namely the Army, the Navy, the Air Force and the Rocket Force, and four arms, including the Aerospace Force, the Cyberspace Force, the Information Support Force and the Joint Logistics Support Force. As circumstances and tasks evolve, we will continue to refine the modern military force structure with Chinese characteristics."

So, Clearly SSF split into three parts
1. SSD graduates as Aerospace force
2. NSD graduates as Cyberspace force
3. Base 311 & other elements elevated as Information Support Force. Possibly the Information Communication Bases (including Information Communication Brigades) could be included into it

Which means that the Joint Logistics Support force is actually a new creation and/or upgraded/reformed existing unit/branch, instead of being a former PLASSF department?

Tha means my previous conclusion in the PLA Breaking News thread is incorrect on that one.

In the meantime, the Aerospace force could in fact be the formal acknowledgement by Beijing that China now has an actual, independent space force (although the independence of the space force arm/branch may have already happened in the background since as early as 2015 per some recounts).

The Information Support Force is "a brand-new strategic arm of the PLA and a key underpinning of coordinated development and application of the network information system," he said.

"It plays an important role and bears great responsibility in promoting high-quality development and the ability to fight and win in modern warfare," he added.

Building the Aerospace Force is "of great significance to strengthening the capacity to safely enter, exit and openly use space, enhancing crisis management and the efficacy of comprehensive governance in space and promoting peaceful utilization of space," he said.

Developing the Cyberspace Force and cyber security and defense means are "important for reinforcing national cyber border defense, promptly detecting and countering network intrusions and maintaining national cyber sovereignty and information security," he said.
