PLA Small arms

Looks like airsoft or bb gun replica, very familiar to what Umarex used/still makes. I doubt H&K or the German government would sell these to anyone since their strict law with export of arms.

(DW did make a documentary about how South American police and cartel got hands om German-branded firearma through American-subsidiary thus shortcut the German export law)

If PLA got hands on H&K G36 i am curious how
Do you actually think that it would be impossible for China to get a few dozen G36?

No not at all, I'm intersted in firearms export/import around the world. Very intersting how PLA got hands on some Western arms. Like previous comments from the members already point out, smuggling of small arms without goverment green light is quite common and sometimes it's hard to know the origin of it.

I know that there was a video on YouTube from CCTV documentary where PLA officer was showing arms of the Steyr AUG A1, SIG SG553 next to a bullpup prototype or an older iteration of the QBZ-95.

Again, it won't be very interesting to me, because there is just so many ways where those can be gotten into PLA's hands. To find out just exactly how would be a waste of time. Import/export is VERY DIFFERENT from cases like this. Import/Export are dealing with actually traceable purchases between buyers and providers, these are contracted commodity sales/purchase. Gotten a hand on a few dozen of these individual items are NOTHING like import/export.

That photo of the G36 is like 20 years old. It was also pretty easy for China to import foreign weapons since official law enforcement agencies could get export licences pretty easily. In the run up to the 2008 Olympics, there were plenty of pictures of PAP SWAT running around with foreign guns.

It was only after Obama’s anti-China pivot that become not Kosha to sell anything to China.

As China sold Saudi Arabia ballistic missiles Saudi probably wouldn't have a problem giving China a few guns.

To be fair I know very little of modern ground warfare, but I'm wondering what troops in PLAGF are being issued the new SMG. Based on the publically available pictures they seem to have a rather substantial amount of them, often showing whole units solely equipped with these SMGs (for example in the pictures above) Are these mainly non-frontline units (for example artillary and tank crew) that just use these as a lightweight self-defense weapon that's more effective than a pistol? Or are frontline infantry units using these parallel to, say, the QBZ-191? If the latter is the case I can't help but wonder what the reasoning behind this is.

From my limited understanding, most SMGs' rather poor armor-piercing capabilities make them rather ineffective in a modern military context, especially when encountering sophisticated body armor tech, so I don't think they serve a major purpose outside of self-defense and maybe infiltration/scouting missions?
