According to the Weibo poster who shared the image, these are 5.8mm rubber bullets for QBZ-95.

Meaning that only 6 years after the QBS06 entered service the technology it’s based on was obsolete.
Farther insult to this is 2019 another 6 years after the ADS. DSG introduced a line of ammunition to the western military market the CAV-X.
DSG Cav-X is a supercavitaing ammunition in 5.56x45mm, 7.62x51mm or 12.7x99mm round able to be fired from suitable conventional weapons with ranges
Just because the Russian switched don't mean it's outdated. It would be saying air superiority fighter is outdated when multi role fighter arrived. Russia could have prioritized infiltration missions where above water is important and China is only using it to defend against enemy divers.

Regular weapons can't cycle reliable under water. AR-15 buffer tube almost looks like a hydralic cylinder.

First use of this class of weapon is very rare. Though older iterations are more prevalent they are mostly relics of the Cold War inventory left over in war stocks of former Soviet states. Actual combat use is unheard of. Yet stated use by the Russians and others is primarily anti frogman. With infiltration potentially.

Next demonstrations were done using an FN Scar H. If you read my post is didn’t say M4, M16 or AR15.
This said the primary aim is to produce an anti frogman weapon again. Hence why a .50bmg round. To allow firing from air into the sea at divers. Generally if on an infiltration the diver is probably not looking to fight other divers. If on security around a port the first aim is to defeat divers from the surface. This could be accomplished by bombs or now bullets.
