No, the short recoil part is there mainly for reducing the recoil, 5.8*42 doesn’t kick that much ,so no need to add any complexity and weight to the system , rumor said it’s about the same weight with type-95 machine gun when both loaded( I’m not sure 50/100 rounds)

QJZ-171's barrel reciprocates when firing, something not observed on older Chinese HMG like W85 below. Probably some kind of recoil reducing mechanism.

I remember hearing rumors about the QJZ-171, that it also uses constant recoil , a lot of effort were put in to reduce the recoil and improve accuracy of bursts.
