Why did the NP22 force the G's creation? Norinco gets paid either way.
The short answer is the original QSZ92s were so poorly made and unreliable, that police departments began to order other things. Starting from Norinco's export catalog, but eventually also Glocks or even Taurus.

There should also be different mission needs between the PAP a Police agency vs a Military agency. By this the need of the pistol as a primary practical weapon becomes more important to the domestic agency particularly in their VVIP protection role.

Complaints against QSZ92 has been around for as long as it was introduced, actually more so since PAP/police put more empathizes on pistol caliber marksmanship training, i.e. PAP/police SWAT shoot way more than before, and that's how the flaws of QSZ92 became glaringly obvious.

The whole looking for replacement drive took traction in the previous decade, especially after Ministry of Public Security trialed NP22 which led to its inclusion in the MPS' catalog (police forces in China have to shop their firearms from their own budget, and they flip though that catalog). Nothing like a good competition that gets one to work...

From this before and after firing photos, it seems this new HMG has exposed lower receiver.

Before firing
The PLA tests new machine guns! Is it a large general-purpose machine gun, or a light large-caliber heavy machine gun?

After firing, the bolt carrier is moving backward and the exposed gas piston is clearly visible

A new 12.7mm sniper rifle is being developed for the army. Note the ammo box in the second image.

Dedicated snipergrade ammunition I suppose; anybody any additional info ???

.50 cal or 12.7mm rifles are a bit of a controversial topic in regards to sniper rifle or not.
The primary use of such weapons is actually EOD. This is as the round is big enough to set off an explosive device like a mortar shell or artillery shell Well being accurate enough to do so from a safe distance.
In terms of range however is not that impressive as a 8.6 or 10.36mm will reach just as far and do just about the same thing. It’s like using a guillotine where a normal chefs Cleaver would do just fine. Check the longest sniper kill in history and you will find that it went back and forth over the last 10 holders between .338lm and 12.7mm save for #8 with a 14,5mm. Most yes were .50 cal but .338 is still keeping up.
