However they often train with themselves and not against an opposing force.

Does it really matter that much? Their army is so large that they could easily create a huge opposing force and train with themselves. They have massive reserves of firearms, boats, tanks, and whatever they may really need.

Yes, it matters.

Training against your own military means that everyone is using the same equipment, doctrine, tactics, command and control chain, etc. These are people who have gone through the same training system and know nothing else.

Training against other militaries means exposing them to different equipment, doctrine, tactics, command and control chain, etc.

Which path will lead to a more capable military? 1 that only trains with itself? Or 1 that trains with other militaries (especially those with recent combat experience)?

Members have sent me PMs asking why I don't post more PLA photos..

Here's why..

Most of them are staged. And there aren't that many of them. No military in the World is a pristine as the PLA looks in it's photos. No one. Once I'd like to see a PLAN "soldier"(sailor) chipping paint. Or working in a working party..Or cooking some food in the galley. If anyone has photos like these please post in the PLAN thread.
