They've been trained as mounted troops not foot soilders WW1 has demonstrated, the use of mounted troops against modern weaponry as futile. Also that looks like pretty open ground to me, even on foot they are a easy target

no way, even if the ancient cavalry, the same will dismonted operations.during the Chinese civil war 1945-1949, both the horse cavalry assault, but also dismount operations, you never see the movies but I see a lot.

Relying on modern equipment is the Achilles heel in determining the outcome of war. The US learnt that the hard way and is still learning it from Vietnam to Afghanistan !

Firemen dressed as police around Tienanmen Square? That's unusual. I don't think they're really to fight structural fires, I suppose they are more like to prevent self-immolating monks like:

Not too long ago someone actually tried that in TAM square. Apparently he didn't succeed (at least in the suicide).
