If 6th gen will indeed be characterised by a central platform commanding a swarm of unmanned wingmen, then it would make sense to offload most of the manoeuvrability-requiring tasks to the more expendable subordinate platforms that will face the most danger and carry out most of the A2A combat, focusing on survivability and loiter time for the rearline command node.

The shiny spots on the nose has intrigued me quite a bit. Side facing radar? Forward facing EOTS? New type of IRST? Paint? Curious.

Does anyone else feel those two optical windows on the sides of cockpit look huge? They look much bigger than the chin eots on J-20. Maybe opto-electronic system outperform radar in detecting VLO targets

Obviously it could pack PL-17 being the beast that it is. I wouldn’t be surprised if they could fit tactical AA nukes in that bay…

Given that we have affirmation on the first flight of Chengdu AC's J-XD and a highly-possible first flight of Shenyang AC's J-XD today, it does feel like calling them J-XD1 and J-XD2 would only lead to more confusion (since we originally expects Chengdu's J-XD to have first flight before Shenyang's J-XD).

Would it be better instead to just refer Chengdu AC's J-XD as J-XDC and Shenyang AC's J-XD as J-XDS? "C" refers to Chengdu AC and "S" refers to Shenyang AC.
