I think we should reevaluate how air warfare is fought going forward. Sensor/low RCS are going to make far more of a difference than the ability to do flips and turns. High speed maneuverability is still important for the aircraft to take favorable position during BVR engagements but dogfight as we traditionally understand it may be a thing of the past.

Would the dogfight component just be taken by UCAVs / Loyal Wingman drones?

Perhaps the development of directed energy counter-missile lasers, some sort of high powered DIRCM ensures it has active defense against missiles and so it doesn't require much maneuverability to counter current threats.

I don't think that the intricate details of his 3D model should be taken as it is, given how we only have poor-to-moderate quality photos and videos of the J-XD1 as of present (and with only very scant photos of the top view at that).

Let's just wait and observe.
I think we can pretty much infer from the blurry picture of the rear of the plane on the tarmac that the plane has its nozzles of the top of the rear similar to the YF-23 configuration, which makes 2D TVC all but possible.

Beyond the technical details and analysis thereof that will undoubtedly be forthcoming in the weeks, months and years ahead, what I find most fascinating is that, for the first time, China has seized the initiative and will shape the global narrative regarding combat aircraft design. Specifically, the eventual product of USAF's NGAD program will necessarily be compared to and contrasted against this aircraft, just as PAK FA and J-20 were compared to and contrasted against both F-22 and F-35 that together established the baseline for the design of fifth-generation combat aircraft. Undoubtedly each manned combat aircraft program that is currently being pursued around the globe has unique design objectives and constraints such that comparisons can be more or less useful or misleading but, if it is too much to claim that this aircraft is the new baseline, it is clearly a new baseline. And that is something altogether new and exciting.
