Haven't seen anyone posting this photo on Weibo until I stumbled upon it on today. Posted two days ago by @健明彭 on Facebook.

Apparently this is the exact SSK (or SSK-N) that was claimed to have sank at pier in Wuchang by a certain US "expert" and the Pentagon?

I don't recall any other active SSKs beyond the 039C with a conning tower design like that. The presence of the X-tail matches what was seen on the satellite imagery last May/June as well.

This photo was alleged to have been taken recently during (one of) her sea trials.

Can anyone verify/confirm the photo's authenticity?

First off, this isn't the 039C for sure. Secondly, the way the light and shadows play on the sea and the submarine looks more like a computer-generated (CG) effect. From what I can tell, it's probably a screenshot from some CG animation.

Don't think there's much new here for involved watchers, but still a good summary nonetheless.

Thanks. My own biggest surprise writing it was that the third Type 927 submarine support hull had recently (?) received her hull number. Also funnily enough I noticed ONI in their 2024 recognition guide gave the wrong hull no to the first 927, (83, which belongs to the dedicated PLAN training vessel).

Aren't two Type 901As under construction as well?

I haven't seen any mention of this class of ship.

Evidence of this remains absent. There are two Type 903As under construction and we have visual evidence for both (hence I noted it).
