It reads like the 'first' system refers to the radar, not to a new class of ship but which class will this radar be used on? Second batch of the 055? Also the mention of 'electric' propulsion.

The article suggests they build a radar prototype. I am not sure at all what characteristics a ship would have to have to use this. The US and Japan for very power hungry radars considered hulls larger than 20k tons, so I am not sure we can automatically assume this kind of design would fit on a conventional destroyer or cruiser. The key objective is to enable some sort of mobile deployment on a naval hull.

Anyway, thats just reading the tea leaves, and reporting by SCMP always carries caveats deeper than the Mariana trench anyway.

The article states that it requires only 235 kW of power even at full capacity. That's peanuts for just about any warship.

I do wonder how big the supercapacitor is. 1 ton weight for a 30 MW supercapacitor sounds really light. Is this something that for example can be shrunken down and put in tanks? Tanks can afford to replace their barrels more often, one that can fire say 20 APFSDS rounds should be enough. Other rounds can be fired at a slower speed and won't wear the barrels as much. That would resolve the two main issues re: railguns.

PLANAF recently conducted a flight screening of new recruits for AC fighter pilots. These new recruits just graduated from universities this year. Among them are a few females. If these young girls can complete the whole training successfully, they will become the first female AC fighter pilots in PLA.

我军首批大学生舰载机招飞对象完成长时段实装筛选飞行​

海军近日在甘肃庆阳、山东滨州两地,依托地方通用航空培训机构,组织完成首批大学生招飞对象15小时实装筛选飞行,从中选拔舰载机飞行学员。这也是我军首次通过长时段实装筛选飞行选拔飞行学员,并有望产生首位舰载机女飞行学员。

实装筛选飞行是世界上一些航空强国选拔飞行学员的重要环节,通常在入门选拔阶段组织实施。在飞行专家指导下,通过组织招飞对象进行若干小时空中飞行,在早期就筛选掉身体条件差、空间定位感弱和心理素质不佳的招飞对象,有效鉴别飞行潜质,精准筛选飞行苗子。随着我军舰载机部队的快速建设发展,实装筛选飞行正在成为海军甄别招飞对象飞行潜质的重要手段。

据海军招飞办有关负责人介绍,今年参加实装筛选飞行的招飞对象全部为按照本科一批线录取的普通高等学校理学、工学专业应届毕业生,其中包括若干名女生。在通航培训机构完成航空理论、地面准备、模拟飞行的学习考核后,他们再进行15小时约80架次起降训练,包括起飞和着陆、平飞和上升下滑、水平转弯和盘旋、俯冲和跃升等飞行内容。实装筛选飞行不仅激发了招飞对象飞行兴趣,强化飞行认知,提高招飞选拔的质量效益,还通过飞行实践发现了一批适合飞行的好苗子。

为满足舰载机飞行员人才需求,海军今年首次在大学应届毕业生中选拔舰载机飞行学员,首次选拔舰载机女飞行学员。参训人员在实装筛选飞行中表现出来的理解记忆、空间感知、平衡机能、状态判读和模仿接受等能力,将由海军检飞专家和民航飞行专家做出综合评定,作为舰载机飞行员选拔择优录取的重要依据。
