A good thread on PLAN 2035. Mainly propaganda but gives clearer direction or PLAN ambition

Much of that twitter thread is a result of fair reasoning but he makes some of his statements too confidently and in too cavalier a manner.
And it doesn't help that there is substantial use of fan made obsolete graphics, which even if they are only for illustration, still reduces the perception of credibility.

In general, for PLA related claims, the more confident they sound, the more cautious one should be.

The more conditional and erring on the side of caution there is, the more it is worth looking into.

That particular thread doesn't tell us anything many of us couldn't already surmise, while simultaneously making various claims and dates in a more confident manner than could be reasonably defended.

For context, the main islands of French Polynesia are located almost 11 thousand kilometers away from China, on the other side of the International Date Line and practically near the opposite end of the Pacific.

I suppose this is the first time for a major Chinese warship to sail this far from home ever since the Harbin DDG's visit to San Diego in 1997 plus Huanggang FFG and Yangzhou FFG's visit to London in 2017.

You forgot about the visit to St. Petersburg by a 052C and a 054A in 2017.

I took the wife and kids to Moscow, St Pete's and Helsinki in summer of 2017, and during a ferry ride in Helsinki, a very pleasant surprise.... we saw them - 571 Yuncheng & 174 Hefei, along with a supply ship. This was after the ships visited St Petersburg and drilled with the Russian Navy. There were noticably many Chinese dudes wandering the streets of Helsinki those few days.

My photos from a ferry...

An official press photo (1st image) marking the 25th anniversary Type 909 test ship Bi Sheng. The image shows an unknown missile being fired from the forward VLS. The same missile was previously seen from a news report back in 2016 (2nd image). Some speculate that this is a sea-based anti-ballistic missile. HHQ-26 perhaps?

South Africa, China, Russia to hold joint naval drills off South Africa’s east coast

The drills will take place off South Africa’s coastal province KwaZulu-Natal from 17 to 24 February

PRETORIA, January 4. /TASS/. South Africa, Russia and China will hold a ten-day naval exercise this February in the Indian Ocean off South Africa’s east coast, the South African online news portal Defense Web reported on Tuesday citing the South African National Defense Force.

The drills will take place off South Africa’s coastal province KwaZulu-Natal from 17 to 24 February, the publication said. The exercise carries the same name Mosi (Smoke) as the first involving the three countries, which was held in South African territorial waters off the Cape of Good Hope in the Atlantic, near Cape Town, in November 2019.

This year, the drills are expected to cover the area from Durban to Richard’s Bay, which are 87 nautical miles (or 160 kilometers) apart. The South African Department of Defense announced that according to preliminary plans, the exercise will see two Russian warships. In particular, the drills include gunnery, force protection and air defense practice.

This is a proof of PLAN's strategic projection capability
